With the greatest appreciation and respect, Lindquist, von Husen & Joyce LLP (LvHJ) announces that S. Scott Seamands, CPA and Stanley Woo, CPA retired as Partners of the firm, effective December 31, 2021. Moving forward, they will continue their relationship with the firm and our clients, on a consulting basis.

“This is a significant chapter in the history of our firm,” said Partner Charlotte Tay, CPA, CGMA, who serves as LvHJ’s management committee chair. “Both Scott and Stan have contributed tremendously to our clients’ success as well as to the growth of our firm and the not-for-profit and affordable housing industries. As they step away from firm leadership duties at LvHJ, we are so pleased to sustain their deep knowledge and experience for engagement consulting and client questions.”

Scott and Stan have enjoyed a long history as colleagues since the beginning of their careers. Scott joined LvHJ in 1980, and in 1987 he became the Partner in Charge of the Audit Department. Stan worked as an auditor at LvHJ right after college in the late 1970s where he met Scott. Although Stan worked for other CPA firms and in private industry, he stayed in touch with Scott and rejoined LvHJ in 2001 in the Tax Department. He became partner in 2013.

Scott served as LvHJ management committee chair between 1994 and 2014. He is a past president of the California Society of CPAs, San Francisco Chapter, and a former board member of the chapter. Scott has been actively involved in the creation of national accounting and audit standards for the affordable housing industry through NeighborWorks and StrengthMatters,® writing several whitepapers and conducting CFO boot camps. A naturally gifted educator, he has spoken extensively and trained clients and staff throughout his career. Scott will continue to consult on audit engagements and lend his experience to affordable housing and not-for-profit client relationships. His active work with national affordable housing organizations is transitioning to Partner Rita Dela Cruz, CPA, CGMA.

Stan led the firm’s tax department. His extensive tax knowledge and technical expertise in affordable housing and other industries contributed to the health and growth of many well-known affordable housing developers and businesses in California. His oversight of tax engagements during his tenure has supported development of new emerging leaders on LvHJ’s tax team. He looks forward to continued study of emerging tax law and consulting on the right approaches and tax planning for LvHJ clients.
